The Reverend Derrick Fetz, Missioner

Amy Boeck, Administrative Assistant, NMVEC

I am a cradle Episcopalian, my paternal great-grandparents early members of the Our Saviour congregation. Todd and I were married in 1996 and he joined the church soon after. We have two children, Sophie and Will, and have always lived in the village of Mechanicsburg aside from 18 months in Japan. I graduated from Wittenberg University with a degree in English and I do some substitute teaching but when the job of Cluster Administrative Assistant was offered to me, I felt it was a sign that I was supposed to continue to serve my church in this new way. In addition, I enjoy singing and also working with the committee to serve the free community meal once a month.

Teaching Sunday School at Our Saviour has made me more aware of how the beautiful words of the Bible can guide us every day: “Keep alert. Be firm in your faith. Stay brave and strong. Show love in everything you do.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 And especially: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35.

Born March 17, 1946 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. I served in the Air National Guard for six years, and married Gloria in 1967. We have three children…Heidi, Jim Jr, and Julie and three grandchildren…Kyle, Drew, and Emily Grace. I joined Church of Our Saviour in 1958 and have served as Junior Warden since 2004. I began serving as Sexton in 2003. I would like to see membership and community outreach grow in the years ahead.

I was born in West Liberty, Ohio and graduated from West Liberty High School in 1958. My College years were spent at a variety of schools. I have an AB degree from Urbana Junior College, and a BS degree from Ohio Northern University. I also studied carillon at Michigan State University, and earned a Masters of Church Music from New York University. I taught Elementary Science and Math in Urbana for thirty years, and after retirement served as the Environmental Education Director for a Presbyterian camp and conference center. I have been a church organist since the age of 14, and was carillonneur and Sub Organist for Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus for 25 years. I am now serving as organist at Our Savior Mechanicsburg and enjoy the opportunity of making music for that wonderful congregation. I was an organ student of Wilber Held, William Haller, and Bill Osborne. I am a member of the American Guild of Organists, and have earned their Choir Master, Service Playing, Colleague, and Associate Certificates. I enjoy being an Episcopalian and hope for many more years to serve the Lord.

I was born and raised on a farm near Kingscreek being number four in a sibling group of six.  We were a musical family that worked, played, and prayed together. I graduated West Liberty-Salem HS, Urbana University and Methesco Seminary’s Organ School. I started playing piano after the sixth grade and accompanied the Jr. High Choir in the seventh grade in the old Salem School. My first performance was accompanying the Church Youth Choir for the Hallelujah Chorus. I started playing the organ when I was in the tenth grade. It has been my privilege to play the Organ at Epiphany since 9/10/06. I currently play for two services each Sunday; one at the Westville United Methodist Church at 9:30 and the second at Epiphany at 11:15. I enjoy both services even though they are both very different. My husband and I had three boys who are now married with a total of eight grandchildren.  We adopted five beautiful children June 29, 2009. Earl passed away to cancer April 24, 2011. The children keep me going and I praise God for them. I retired as Clerk of Courts for the Champaign County Municipal Court November 30, 2011. My favorite scripture is I Chronicles 4:10, the Prayer of Jabez which says, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.
